Re: Charles Handy federal model
Thu, November 27, 2003 - 3:50 AMThis is so hand waving. The purpose of companies is to give people a common, clear goal to commit. I can't see how this is to be achieved in a homogenues network.
You can view company as a tightly coupled subnetwork. I believe there is need for some parts of the economic network to be tightly coupled. -

Re: Charles Handy federal model
Thu, November 27, 2003 - 5:01 AMCorporation. An organization formed under state law for the purpose of carrying on a business enterprise is such a manner as to make the enterprise distinct from its owners.
I believe you are talking about two things here Zbigniew.
The company is a legal abstraction with the sole purpose of carrying on a business enterprise.
The network of people, with various roles and various connections with regards to a specific company, is what makes
everything work, both inside and outside the company.
As I see it, the web in general, and even more so as blogs, and communities are more and more resembling content management systems and intranets, the threshold level that used to be one necessary characteristic for the legal abstraction of corporations, is rapidly dwindling away.
GC, chaordic charters and Handys federated model is early
attempts to find the new balance between social capital and capital.
